Mobile App Download

Download and install the app:

Apple App Store (iOS)
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/truety/id644865119

Google Play (Android):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qmeters.android.qmc4

Alternatively, search for “Truety” in any of the stores to find the app.

Log into the app using the same username and password as for the web-based Truety portal.

Projects

Once logged in the first screen would display projects that user has access to within Truety.

Tapping on the arrow would lead to more details for a specific project that would include number of Buildings, Gateway and Meters that belong to the project.

Tapping on the project will lead to a list of buildings. If there is only one building in the project, the app will lead directly to the building screen.

Building

Top section displays building information, such as name and address. Tapping on the arrow would lead to more details for a specific building that would include a map and contact information if any for that building.

Device section indicates the number of devices currently communicating at the site. Tap here to view specific device information or add a new device to the building.

Gateway section indicates number of gateways assigned to the building and displays communication status.

Location section indicates number of locations in the building. Locations can be used to represent Units, Suites, Town Homes, etc. Meters can be assigned to location or left unassigned. Locations can be added ahead of time, or directly from the device commissioning screen.

Devices

Device screen will display a list of devices, such as water meters. Each item would include relevant information, such as Serial Number, Transmitter Serial Number, Assigned Location, meter type (Hot/Cold) and communication status.

Description the fields is at the bottom of the page.

The button in the bottom right corner is used to initiate NFC communication with the meter.

Upon successful communication over NFC device properties screen will appear. If the device is existing in the building, this will bring the properties screen for that device. And if the device is not in the building, a new device form will appear.

Wireless Module Connection to the Water Meter

*If the meter is ordered with PDC (Pre-Commissioning Configuration), QMC will pre-wire the communication module to the meter and test the communication. In this case proceed to next page.

Connect wireless modules to the meters in the following manner:
RED
<->
WHITE
GREEN
<->
GREEN
BLACK
<->
BROWN

If the wireless module or meter comes with a different colour code, please ensure that the green wire from the meter is always connected to the green wire of the wireless module. The other 2 wires are not polarity sensitive.

For outdoor installations use Scotchlok™ connectors or other similar waterproof connectors

If there is no connection to the module, or if the connection is done incorrectly, the Truety app will not detect the module, and a warning icon   will be displayed when connecting to the module.

Note: The Outdoor Hybrid Model will not require any wiring connections.

NFC Communication

When discovering a device, or to add a new device to the building tap the blue button to initiate NFC communication.
This will bring up a Waiting… notification.

When using the NFC tap, it is important to note that a tap can take up to 3 seconds to complete, depending on what information the app is exchanging with the module.

Please try to keep the phone as still as possible once the tap has been initiated.

The phone will typically vibrate to indicate that the NFC tap process has started, and the screen on the phone will indicate that the phone is communicating with the module.

When complete, a success or failure icon and sound will be presented, to indicate whether the operation was successful.

Location of the NFC reader may vary by phone manufacturer and model. Please refer to your manufacturer’s manual for the best results

Device Properties

After NFC tap is complete a success message will indicate Meter Serial number and the current meter reading.

The app can diagnose multiple parameters and will advise the user of potential issues, such as bad wiring, etc.

Most common NFC Errors are due to the phone not being held steady by the NFC reader. Reference attached guide or appendix below for NFC tips.

Select location from the dropdown menu, or type location in the “Assigned Location” field. The app will prompt if there is no existing location. Device can be saved without location and will appear in the device list as unassigned.

Description field is not mandatory and can be used for describing specific location, service, custom ID, etc., or it can be left blank.

After assigning location and adding description tap the checkmark in the top right corner to save device information.

If edits required after saving, tap the pencil icon.

to initiate LoRaWAN communication. See next section.

Commissioning

It is the best practice to have the Truety gateway installed, turned on and connected to the internet. Once the gateway is up and running communication status of the device on the top of the screen can be utilized to confirm communication and see the signal strength of the device.

Press “COMMISSION DEVICE” button in the app and tap the module with the phone to initiate NFC communication.

Make sure that commissioning tap is successful as shown on the middle image below.

Press “UPDATE STATUS” button in the app to refresh Status of the of the device. If there is a Truety Gateway in the reach of the device, device status would be updated and will display most recent data transmission, reading received from the meter and signal strength.
After going through the commissioning steps, it is recommended to take the picture of installation of the meter (1), wireless transmitter (2), and any other relative information.

NOTE: Currently picture upload requires cell phone to be connected to the internet. Offline functionality is in development.

After successful commissioning and upload of the pictures, return to the Devices screen (3).

Newly added device would appear on the list with the SN, Location, Transmitter Serial Number, Device Type and Communication status updated.

Use filter to search the list.

Use sorting field below the search to sort the list by location, SN, Transmitter SN, and Descriptions.

Use communication status to filter by Communicating or Not Communicating devices.

NFC Antenna Locations on the Most Common Devices

Truety app utilizes NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to communicate with the system components. To take advantage of the effortless process of commissioning the meters on site, referred to as “Tap and Go” mobile phones must be NFC capable.

As there is a great variety of devices on the market, the location of the NFC antenna can vary between devices.

See tips below for a successful connection and resources below to locate NFC location on a device.
  1. Make sure that the phone's NFC antenna is positioned as close as possible to the NFC
antenna. On Truety devices, NFC antenna is located under the NFC logo on the face of the meter, or on the label of the communication module:
  2. Ensure that the NFC feature is active on your device. On most devices this setting can be
    found under device settings.
  3. In some instances, cases can interfere with the NFC communications, especially cases that
are equipped with a battery, or have an RFID wallet compartment.
  4. Some phone models are region specific, so make sure that the device that is used deos
    indeed support NFC functionality
  5. Make sure that the device has up to date operating system
  6. Make sure that the phone is not in Airplane mode
  7. Make sure that the Extreme Battery Saver is not on
  8. Restart the device
  9. Contact the device manufacturer for support

Apple

To you use the NFC on iPhone, operating system must be IOS13 or higher.
All iPhone models starting with iPhone 6 and onward feature NFC technology.
Apple does not specify location of the NFC antenna on their devices; however, it is known that most of the iPhones have their antennas placed above and to the right of the rear camera.
