Gateway (Enterprise / Outdoor Solution)

1. Install the Gateway:
  1. Use the mounting hardware to mount and ground the Gateway
  2. Use the Ethernet port to power up the Gateway (120V PoE injector is included with the Gateway. Use PoE port)
  3. Connect the LoRaWAN antenna to the Gateway
2. Check if the gateway is online:

  1. It can take up to 5 minutes for the gateway to power up and connect to the server
  2. Navigate to portal.truety.com and login. If you do not have an account, you will need to register at portal.truety.com/register – you will need to be granted access to your project by an existing user to proceed beyond this step
  3. Select the “Gateways” option on the left menu
  4. The status of all gateways accessible to your account is displayed here and updated in real-time. The “Last Uplink” field will indicate when the Truety system last received data from your gateway(s).

Wireless Module Connection to the Water Meter

Connect wireless modules to the meters in the following manner:
RED
<->
WHITE
GREEN
<->
GREEN
BLACK
<->
BROWN

If the wireless module or meter comes with a different colour code, please ensure that the green wire from the meter is always connected to the green wire of the wireless module. The other 2 wires are not polarity sensitive.

For outdoor installations use Scotchlok™ connectors or other similar waterproof connectors

If there is no connection to the module, or if the connection is done incorrectly, the Truety app will not detect the module, and a warning icon will be displayed when connecting to the module.

Note: The Outdoor Hybrid Model will not require any wiring connections

Truety Mobile App

  1. Download and install the Truety mobile app. Search for “Truety” in the app store

  2. Log in to the app. Your login credentials are the same as the Truety Web Portal (navigate to portal.truety.com to register and/or request access)
  3. Select the project in the app:

  4. Navigate to devices, click the “+” icon and tap and hold* your phone’s NFC reader to the NFC area on the wireless module

The NFC “tap and hold” will scan the module and detect if the module already exists on Truety exists or needs to be added to the project database.

To add the module, you will need to provide a device name, optionally assign it to a “Location” in the building and then save changes to update the Truety database.
Location of the NFC reader may vary by phone manufacturer and model. Please refer to your manufacturer’s manual for the best results
Location of the NFC area on Truety wireless module
When using the NFC tap, it is important to note that a tap can take up to 3 seconds to complete, depending on what information the app is exchanging with the module.

Please try to keep the phone as still as possible once the tap has been initiated.

Your phone will typically vibrate to indicate that the NFC tap process has started, and the screen on the phone will indicate that the phone is communicating with the module.

When complete, a success or failure icon and sound will be presented, to indicate whether or not the operation was successful.

Range Testing

Truety wireless modules are designed to optimize their communication parameters, based on the RF environment, to maximize transmission speed and battery life.

Typically, once a wireless module has been installed, its location is permanent. This differs from range testing scenarios where the module will be moved to different locations during testing. For this reason, range testing should only be performed with modules that have been specifically programmed for range testing scenarios by disabling the adaptive features.

  1. Navigate to the Gateways menu in the app and check the status of the Gateway. If the Gateway is online, proceed with the testing, if it is not online, check the following:
    1. Power to the Gateway
    2. Connection of the antenna (make sure that the antenna is connected to the LoRaWAN port, not cellular)
    3. Cellular reception at the Gateway location
    4. It can take up to 5 minutes for the Gateway to fully boot and establish communication with the LoRaWAN Network Server
      The green dot indicates that the Gateway is online and has communicated in the past 5 minutes
  2. Navigate to your Device, click “Commission Device”, then tap and hold your phone to the module to initiate data transmission. This process can take up to 3 seconds to complete.

  3. Once the module is tapped, press “UPDATE STATUS” to check the communication status and last successful transmission of the module to the server (See the picture above). The status will show the age of the last successful communication as the bars will indicate the signal strength with 1 to 5 bars.
